Berberis thunb Japanese barberry. Helmond Pillar, h of cm 25-30
Synonyms: Jelmond Pilar's barberry, Barberry Helmond P_llar, Berberis Helmond Pillar, Helmond Pillar Japanese barberry, Helmond Pillar Barberry. Form: Jelmond Pilar's barberry - one of the most interesting new landscape developments. This deciduous prickly bush, uzkokolonovidny form with numerous red vertical escapes and with the bright fruits decorating barberry the whole winter. Size: Jelmond Pilar's barberry reaches height of 1,5 m and 0,4-0,6 m in the diameter. Gain: about 20 cm a year. Average growth rate, and under ideal conditions it is possible to expect that live within about 20 years. Escapes: red-brown, faceted, with single yellow and cream thorns as at all barberries of tunberg. In the early spring sanitary cutting of old escapes is carried out. Leaves: located serially, ovoid, falling down, dark and claret (violet). At the end of fall gain new scarlet, orange and golden colors. Species of flowers: simple, yellow flowers which hide among leaves in the middle of the spring. Blossoming time: in May the yellow flowers collected in inflorescences on several pieces look very effectively against purple foliage. Fruits: coral-red, brilliant, elliptic, with a diameter up to 1 cm, ripen in September-October then all winter decorate your garden. Roots: well branched superficial root system, but separate roots deep, with large number of thin roots, well transfer change. The relation to light / insolation: The barberry of Helmond Pillar is photophilous, but takes out small shading.
