Coal dust wholesale for export
The first authentic data on search and investigation of fossil coal in Russia belong to the beginning of the 18th century. At Peter I paying much attention to mining art development special expeditions in different regions of the country have been organized. In Donbass deposits of bituminous coal have been open in 1721 (near the modern cities of Lysychansk and Mine). The coal extracted here was used in salt-making and blacksmithing. In 1721 the coal field on the Tom River (Kuzbass) is revealed. Opening of the pool Situated near Moscow belongs to the same year. The first coal mines in Russia have appeared around Kizel in the Urals, Tula (Pool situated near Moscow), in Ukraine, around Lysychansk (the mine constructed here began to give coal in 1796; it was the main coal-mining enterprise till 60th of the 19th century).Development of the coal industry of Russia in the 19th century is closely connected with the further growth of industrial capacity of the country, expansion of a network of the railroads. Despite steady increase of extraction of bituminous coal, 15% of needs of the country before 1914 became covered by their import since in 1913 Russia extracted only 29,2 million t of coal — 18 times less, than the USA, is 10 times less, than Germany and Great Britain. The maximum volume of production in 1916 made 34,6 million t; 80 its % were the share of Donbass.
Almost all processes in mines of pre-revolutionary Russia were carried out manually; a bed, obushok, the shovel, the sledge were the main instruments of production. Several tens mining machines of foreign production worked at mines of Donbass. After Civil war of 1918-20 70% of mines were destroyed, not suitable for operation, there was a difficult situation with fuel. The plan of GOELRO developed in 1920 provided increase in 10-15 years of volume of coal mining prior to 62,5 million t. Extraction of bituminous coal has exceeded level 1913 in 1929, and by the end of the 1st five-years period (1932) has reached 64,4 million t.
