Gesintetichesky materials - the polymeric materials used in contact with soil and improving technical characteristics of soil.
For the first time the term "geosynthetics" was published in the report of professor Jean-Paul Giraud at the first international conference on use of synthetic materials in geotechnics in Paris in 1977 and since then became standard. An intensification of road, hydrotechnical and industrial construction, need for fast, reliable and economically reasonable solution of complex geotechnical challenges was an incitement to rapid development of the industry of geosintetik. There was a need for systematization of the accumulated theoretical knowledge and practical experience, development of uniform standards of production and application of geosintetik. Already at the second conference in Las - Vegas, Nevada, the USA in 1982 the interim committee for preparation of the principles of formation of professional community was formed, and in November, 1983 the International society of geosintetik (IGS) was formed. Today society unites manufacturers, sellers, designers, builders, representatives of scientific community more than from 100 countries of the world. Since June, 1985, there are regularly newsletters of IGS in which the latest developments and researches in the field of geosintetik are published.
According to classification of IGS geosynthetics it is possible to divide into three main types.
The water-permeable or draining materials at which the coefficient of a filtration is equal or more than a coefficient of a filtration of soil. Geotekstil, geogrids, geolattices and similar materials belong to such geosintetika.
Waterproof geosynthetics which coefficient of a filtration is much less than a coefficient of a soil filtration. Geomembranes belong to such geosintetika.
The geocomposites representing "sandwich" from various combinations of geosintetik.
Each type of geosintetik is presented by a wide range of various materials differing on physical, mechanically and to operational characteristics that always should be considered at design of constructions and when performing installation and construction works.
