In big rooms it is better to use a tile of large formats (600х600 mm.) more, then the stone looks better and the room "is not split up". The sizes 400х400 and 300х300 of mm are suitable for small rooms. Most often apply a "square" tile to floors if floors have any drawing, then its format depends on design.
Standard sizes of a modular tile.

The modular tile, even sawn on the newest and expensive equipment has small errors in sizes therefore when laying it is necessary to do a small seam ~ to 1 mm. It is necessary to fill it with special two-component glue on a stone (not cement mortar and not a zatirka for seams), tinting in tone of a stone. In this case seams will contrastly not be allocated, neither on color, nor on polishing. If the stone has obviously expressed drawing, masters when laying have to seeks to support him. It is the best of all if the special person is engaged in it. After laying you should not save on full polishing of all covering if you want to receive visually "monolithic" floor. Polishing is made by the special polishing machine in "the wet mode" at which about 8 numbers of abrasive and polishing circles are used. For safety of ready wall coverings, before polishing the lower part of walls should be tightened a film.
When laying a tile "European standard" 10 mm thick. seams look more, than when laying a tile of 20 mm., since at production of a thin tile on its perimeter the small facet, in order to avoid a chip of edges is removed. At full polishing of floors this effect disappears.
In situations with emergence of "hooks" (differences between tiles) arisen because of the wrong laying of a tile you should not try to polish them - manually it will not be possible to achieve quality of factory polishing. On a floor in such places, on the reflected surface semi-gloss strips very strongly will be visible. It is possible to eliminate such defects only with full repolishing of all floor.
During creation of "antique" floors, perhaps to use two approaches: the tile with specially processed surface keeps within (the type hammered, brushed, etc.), or already laid standard tile is specially processed mechanical and (or) chemical processing, depending on creation of necessary effect. Seams (fugues), for such floors we advise to do more (from 3 to 10 mm).
