Coupling couplings - General information
In modern mechanical engineering the majority of cars consists of assembly units (knots) and mechanisms. For ensuring kinematic and power communication shaft of knots connect couplings.
The coupling - is called the device for connection of the ends of shaft or for connection of shaft with the details (cogwheels, asterisks etc.) which are freely sitting on them.
Purpose of couplings — transfer of the rotating moment without change of its value and the direction. In some cases couplings in addition absorb vibrations and pushes, protect the car from accidents at overloads, and also are used for inclusion and switching off of the working mechanism of the car without engine stops.
The coupling of the drive can carry out and other important functions: compensation of small assembly deviations, separation or lengthening of shaft, semi-automatic management, protection of mechanisms from critical loadings.
The torque transmission in the coupling can be carried out by the mechanical communication between details which is carried out in the form of motionless connections or kinematic couples (geometrical short circuit); at the expense of friction forces or a magnetic attraction (power short circuit); forces of inertia or induction interaction of electromagnetic fields (dynamic short circuit).
The most widespread sizes and types of designs of couplings are carried out according to uniform international standards.
