Migraine (fr. migraine), hemicrany (from Greek hemi — a floor - and kranion — a skull), the disease which is characterized by periodically repeating attacks of the headache which is localized usually in one half of the head. More often women are ill. Hereditary burdening is in most cases noted; the disease often begins to be shown during puberty. The headache origin mechanism at M. is connected with changes of a tone inside - and extra cranial vessels; assume that in the beginning the spasm develops, and then — decrease in a tone of vessels and thereof their abnormal expansion. Attacks of a headache are combined with nausea, vomiting, a photophobia. Pallor or reddening of face skin, a cold snap of brushes and feet, weakness, a fever, yawning, etc. the phenomena are observed. Patients usually complain of feeling of the shining sparks, zigzag lines, sometimes of decrease in sight and fog in eyes (oftalmichesky M. ) . In other cases there are complaints to feelings of a sleep, a pricking in extremities, sometimes in the person and language. So - called symptomatic M. is a symptom of organic diseases of a brain (tumors, vascular aneurisms and so forth).

Treatment: normalization of a vascular tone, sedatives; physical therapy.
